Stone Farmhouse Renovation
Works to this beautiful stone farmhouse included a first-floor extension and careful matching of stone from BJ Bain’s extensive stock of reclaimed material.
New PVC foil grained sash windows were installed to resemble wood and blend seamlessly with the façade of the home. The windows and doors were sourced and installed in-house.
In the entrance, the removal of the existing ground floor concrete flooring made way for the installation of new floor tiles (sourced by the customer).
The living room beams were transformed and restored to compliment the age of the property.
The heating system was upgraded to a ground source heat pump with all ground excavations kept in-house. BJ Bain Building Contractors supplied and laid all the underfloor heating, including the screeds.
The existing staircase was remodelled to include a new bullnose step, balustrade and a reduction in the newell to accommodate the acorn top.
A new downstairs W/C was created with decorative vertical boarding and moulded dado.
The installation of new doors and furniture as per customer requirement.
Originally three rooms, the kitchen/diner was equipped with underfloor heating and a larder cupboard was installed.
The existing kitchen window opening was expanded followed by the installation of new crittall style double opening doors and fixed windows onto the patio.
All of the bathrooms were installed by BJ Bain Building Contractors with the customer sourcing their own tiles.
The bespoke bookcase on the landing was built in-house by our joiner.
The first floor extension created a beautiful bedroom, a custom built walk in wardrobe and ensuite.
All the upper end of the existing house was propped and removed, including supply and installation of all the steel work, with engineer’s drawings ready to hand to building regulations.
"We couldn’t be more satisfied with the work Barry's team did on our extensive house renovation. From start to finish they were professional. The quality of craftsmanship with regard to the stone masonry, underfloor heating, carpentry, plaster work, tiling, and plumbing was fantastic. Their approach to and dealing with snagging issues was brilliant, and was something that was really important to us as many builders never follow this up, but Barry did.”
